Our story

Bridging the gap between technology and governance

Afrocentric Intellectual Property (Afrocentric IP) was founded in 2009 out of a clear need to bridge the gap between technology and governance on the African continent. Our founder, Luvo Gwiliza, recognised that while many organisations invested heavily in ICT systems, few were realising their full value. Technology often operated in silos, unsupported, misaligned, or disconnected from governance and compliance frameworks.

Afrocentric IP was created to change that. From the beginning, our mission has been to turn technology into a strategic enabler, helping organisations achieve resilience, accountability, and performance through secure, compliant, and purpose-driven ICT solutions.

Our name

What “Afrocentric Intellectual Property” means

Our name reflects our philosophy.

“Afrocentric” means Africa is at the centre of everything we do. We design solutions that are created for us, by us, grounded in local realities yet benchmarked against global standards.

“Intellectual Property” represents the knowledge, innovation, and ideas that originate on our continent and serve our people.

Together, the name embodies our belief in African excellence, where technology meets purpose, every solution we deliver carries both technical precision and deep respect for Africa’s social, cultural, and economic context.

Our journey

How Afrocentric IP grew

Four stages from specialist delivery to a leading ICT and managed services partner across Southern Africa.

  1. 2009 2015

    Foundation

Afrocentric IP began as a specialist provider of on-premise backup and disaster recovery solutions, helping South African organisations establish secure and compliant digital foundations.

  2. 2016 2020

    Organisational Maturity

As ICT landscapes evolved, we expanded into Information Security, Managed ICT Services, and Governance, Risk & Compliance. We became known for our POPIA-aligned, data-sovereign ICT management and proactive, SLA-driven delivery.

  3. 2021 2023

    Digital Transformation

We transitioned from a service provider to a strategic technology partner, guiding clients through cloud migration, hybrid infrastructure design, and business continuity planning. This period marked growth in national footprint, partnerships, and certification.

  4. 2024 Present

    A Leading ICT Partner

Today, Afrocentric IP is a fully-fledged managed services and ICT solutions provider, trusted by governments and enterprises across Southern Africa. We continue to blend technical excellence with Afrocentric values, driving local empowerment, digital sovereignty, and sustainable innovation.
